UK Brambling Cross Hops Profile

Pedigree Raised in 1927 from the commercial Golding variety Bramling crossed with a Manitoban wild male hop
Maturity Early to mid-season
Yield 1,500 - 2,000 kg./ha or 1,350 - 1,800 lb./ac.
Growth Habit Moderately vigorous but produces few shoots in the Spring.
Disease Reaction Tolerant to Verticillium wilt and hop mosaic. Fairly tolerant to both downy and powdery mildew.

Cone Structure Medium sized, moderately tight, plumpish cone.
Quality
Luplin Medium yellow in color.
Aroma Quite mild and not unpleasant, fruity currant aroma
Alpha Acids 5.0 - 7.0% w/w
Beta Acids 2.5 - 3.5% w/w
Co-Humulone 25 - 30% of alpha acids
Storageability 60 - 70% of alpha acids remaining after six (6) months storage at 20º C.
Total Oil 0.8- 1.2 mls/100 grams
Myrcene 35 - 40% of whole oil
Humulene 28- 33% of whole oil
Caryphyllene 14 - 18% of whole oil
Farnesene <1% of whole oil
General Trade Perception Acceptable general-purpose aroma hop but lacking the fineness of Golding aroma. Originally bred as a replacement for the Goldings, good all around English hop.

Beer Styles ESB, Bitter, pale Ale
Other Information Its tolerance to Verticillium wilt allowed its expansion in the U.K. as the acreage of Fuggles and Goldings declined.
